Decisions Building Character, Shaping Futures by Pointing Youth to Treasures of Healthy Decisions

Dates: July 21–25, 2025; 9am – 3pm daily
Location: Mt. Olive MBC of Mt. Meigs, 1250 Sprott Drive, Montgomery, AL 36117

Ages: 12 to 16

Camp Description: Since 2008, Camp KARATer has provided youth with meaningful character education and life-skills training in a fun, engaging, and structured environment. This five-day summer camp empowers students ages 12 to 16 through interactive workshops, mentoring, and experiential learning opportunities.

Camp KARATer is more than just a summer program—it’s a life-shaping experience that fosters self-esteem, provides positive role models, and encourages youth to make responsible and informed decisions. Participants will build leadership skills, enhance communication abilities, and develop a personal “character compass” to help navigate life’s challenges.

KARATer. stands for:

Kindness • Assertiveness • Responsibility • Abstinence • Tolerance • Empathy • Respect

Camp Goals:

  • Promote the development of positive character traits
  • Encourage leadership and teamwork
  • Strengthen decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Prepare youth to become productive, responsible citizens

2025 Workshops:

  • Social Communication Skills & Etiquette 101
    Gain confidence in verbal and nonverbal communication, interview skills, and professional etiquette.
  • College & Career Readiness: Exploring STEM Careers
    Explore career pathways and build interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through hands-on experiences.
  • Drone Technology
    Learn about emerging drone technologies and career opportunities through interactive sessions.
  • Financial Management: Your Money, Your Future
    Understand budgeting, saving, and smart money habits to prepare for financial independence.
  • The Youth Entrepreneur
    Learn the essentials of starting and growing a business—creativity, leadership, innovation, and responsibility.  NEW in 2025: This workshop will include podcast and content creation to help participants develop branding, storytelling, and digital marketing skills to support entrepreneurial efforts.

Course Assessment and Completion

  • Pre- and Post-Program Assessments for select workshops
  • Certificate of Completion presented at the end of camp

Featured Highlight

  • Writing for Healing and Limitless Expressions (Journaling & Assessments). This is a reflective journaling session that empowers youth to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences as a path to healing, self-discovery, and personal growth.
  • Lego Team Competition to promote teamwork, creativity, and innovation

Camp KARATer creates a safe and nurturing space where students grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially. By the end of the program, participants will be equipped to lead with integrity, confidence, and the enduring values of Kindness, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Abstinence, Tolerance, Empathy, and Respect.
